Hello,
I just reinstalled XP on my PC after it became badly infected with malware. The reinstall seemed to go well, but now the computer is without sound. In the device manager under "other devices" there is a yellow question mark next to the Multimedia Audio Controller device. The device manager shows that "the driver is not installed for this device (Code 28)." The location of this device is "PCI bus 0, device 2, function 7." Can someone please explain how I can obtain and install this driver? When I click reinstall driver, Windows is looking for me to provide the software on a CD which of course I don't have. In the system volume properties tab it shows ""No Audio Device." Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks |

In order to find these drivers, you need to either:
1. Tell me the make and model of your computer. I can then find the drivers and link the page to you. or... 2. Google your make and model and then put drivers after it. So say you're like me and have a COMPAQ Presario S6500nx, you would type in google, "Compaq Presario s6500nx drivers". If your computer is a Dell or Compaq or one of the more popular brands, be sure to get the drivers from the site so when you google that, make sure you are going to dell.com or compaq.com or whatever it may be. |

MY PC was built by a local shop. It's not a name brand. I have a list of all the parts though.

Open the side of the case and look at the motherboard. See if you can locate the brand name and model number. Or you may be able to find the same info listed in the bios.

Look at the parts list - if there is no dedicated sound card, you have onboard video. Look up the motherboard brand and model, and download the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's site.
Didn't the builder give you a motherboard support CD? |

Thanks for your help. I still have to dig out the parts list. No I don't have a support CD for the MOBO. So far I've been able to get the following from device manager: ACPI\PNP0C02\1 Does this indicate the manufacturer? Sorry for this newbie question but I'm still learning.
UPDATE: I found the MOBO info. FOXK7S741GXMG-6L Last edited by rayban; 03-22-2009 at 10:20 PM. Reason: update |
