advice needed fast on new PC

I'm just getting ready to upgrade my computer by replacing the motherboard and cpu but I'm keeping my hard drive the same since I recently upgraded it. I've asked some people if I need to reinstall Windows XP home edition but I get different answers. Will Windows detect the new hardware right away or could it cause problems? Thanks for any help you have.
