Win XP Pro boots only into safe mode

hey everyone, need some advice here. I recently installed Norton anti virus 2009 and have had issues ever since. their tech support was unable to resolve the issues, so i asked for the program to be uninstalled. the tech guy said he could remote into my PC and resolve the issue. well he got Norton uninstalled, however he had to remove it manual .. hence booting my PC into safe mode. now it seems no matter what he or I try my PC continues to boot into safe mode. any clue as to how I can get my PC back to normal? could this have been a virus? I've done the MSCONFIG, change the boot.ini, etc etc ... thanks in advance for any advice. also can anyone recommend any good anti virus software? i bought a copy of Kaspersky, is it any good? also I'm running Win XP Pro

Do a system restore back to a date before you had any problems.

Why are you BUYING antivirus without doing some research here? There are 3 excellent FREE antivirus packages out there - AVG, Avast, and Avira.
