Problems installing Windows XP 64 bit, Blue Screen of Death
I am getting Blue Screen of Death when I try to install Windows XP 64 bit.
I am trying to install a dual boot with my pre-existing Vista 64 Ultimate and XP 64. As explained here: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_v...ide.htm?page=4 My motherboard is an Asus P5K-E My BIOS has hard drives set to ACHI. I have disabled ethernet etc in BIOS before attempting install of XP 64. I have tried this: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=411 and this: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Insta...F6-47807.shtml And I still get the blue screen of death at the point when it says "Setup is starting Windows" at the bottom of the screen at the beginning of installation process. So I have tried integrating my motherboards SATA drivers, which are specifically JMicron JMB363 RAID V117150 (driver name I just downloaded from ASUS yesterday) The version of windows i have tried integrating and installing is called XP 64 bit corporate edition, it is SP1, about 550 MB. I also have an SP2 version of XP 64 bit that is on a single layer DVD, I have not tried integrating and installing this version yet. I have done this dual boot thing before without a hitch. This is what is stumping me. I am almost positive I have done it with ACHI setting chosen in BIOS as well. Any input is appreciated, I am about at my wit's end with this stuff. BTW I even tried installing this same version (corporate edition) to a blank hard drive, just one hard drive active, and I still got the blue screen thank you all! also, i have 4 GB ram, if it matters Last edited by powpowmeow; 03-28-2009 at 11:31 AM. |

No, the JMicron drivers are for the 3rd party eSATA/IDE controller. You need the drivers for the Intel ICH9R.
You can find the drivers on the motherboard support DVD in \drivers\chipset\makedisk\dos\64. The easiest way to use them is copy the contents of that folder to a floppy, then use F6 at the beginning of setup to load them. A floppy is REQUIRED unless you know exactly how to slipstream them. |

I would buy a USB Floppy but I have heard that XP setup does not always recognize them.

As long as it's seen as the "A" drive, it will work. That's what XP keys on.
Why not buy a standard floppy and hook it up temporarily outside the case? The motherboard came with a cable and all power supplies I've seen still have at least one mini 4 pin connector. Standard floppies are cheaper than USB anyway. You could rob one out of an old computer, for that matter. |
