Outlook Express 6 - Attachments

It may be a coincidence, but since installing Internet Explorer 8 (in Windows XP), I am unable to open any attachments in Outlook Express 6. When I double click on a .jpg attachment for example, there's a momentary timeglass cursor but nothing happens. I can save the attachments and they will then open in the appropriate application. Has anyone else experienced this problem and what is the solution, please?

Try to empty your Internet Temporary folder.
If issue is still there then try to rename the that folder. Hope it will help you.

Might also look in the Tools->Options->Security tab

I regret that the suggestions have not corrected the problem. I have discovered two things though, i.e. that it is only images with the .jpg extension that will not open from OE 6, other attachments will, and that having Googled my problem, it is an old known fact about Outlook Express 6. Unfortunately, I have not come across a solution or why OE6 should suddenly start behaving this way!

I have checked the Folder Options in Windows Explorer and .jpg and .jpeg are shown as opening with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. I'm starting to pull my receding hair!!
