New XP still acrivated?

Hi.. A friend of mine needs to upgrade her system to XP or better for upgrading to high-speed internet. I like XP. If I buy a boxed version of XP, is MS still activating it? I have SP1 and SP2 on disk, so once it's installed, I'll do all needed tech service, etc. for her.

I've read somewhere that they no longer support XP.

Thanks a lot

Buy XP OEM from Newegg. It will come with SP3 and the activation servers will be online for quite some time. Just make sure her system meets specs, if it doesn't have XP it sounds like its pretty old and it may be better to replace it.

You don't need XP for high speed internet, by the way.

98SE will work fine as long as it has a working NIC. It's just that Verizon's OPTIONAL software won't run on it, everything will need to be set up manually and Verizon will not provide tech support.
