Question Need File Name(s) on XP Install CDROM....

I'm trying to reinstall IE 6 (I'll upgrade to IE 7 after a while), using the following instructions from Microsoft:

Method 3: Reinstall Internet Explorer 6 by using the Ie.inf file

If you already have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, and you do not want to install Internet Explorer 8, you may be able to resolve problems with Internet Explorer 6 by using the Ie.inf file to reinstall Internet Explorer 6. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then press ENTER.
2. Find the Ie.inf file that is located in Windows\Inf folder.
3. Right-click the Ie.inf file, and then click Install.
4. Restart the computer when the file copy process is complete.

This process requires the XP Install CDROM. However, the process doesn't help you in navigating to the appropriate file(s) on the Install CDROM...

Exactly what file(s) do I need on that Install CDROM, and where are they on that CDROM?

Have you uninstall first your internet explorer version 7 ? uninstall it from add/remove.
When you start the installation process, Internet Explorer version 6 will automatically comes up.

For a few weeks, when I double-clicked the IE 6 shortcut on my desktop, all I got was yet another IE shortcut, even after deleting the original and replacing it...

As for IE 7, it wouldn't completely install (that was awhile ago).

What files are being asked from the CD?
I'm assuming that you were able to do steps 1, 2 and 3 .. and then during the install process it asks for your XP CD?

It doesn't specifically asks for the file on the XP Install CD...but in retracing these steps, I did manage to find the filename it needed--Iexplore.exe.

My fault for not noticing that before...duh!

Sorry about that!
