Screen power saving

I have a problem with screen power saving i wonder if anybody knows of a fix for? If i set it up for say 5mins it will work OK but sometimes when i boot up computer it does not operate. If i now change to another setting it will work OK again but then a repitition will occur on another boot up. The strange thing is that it does not happen at every boot up also once it works it will carry on working whilst computer is running. I have installed KB960496 (which is for switch off problem) yesterday but on boot up this morning i had to change setting before it would work,so it did not fix problem.

You may have processes running that are telling power management that there is still activity.

Thanks GLC, that KB960496 was supposed to ensure all processes were shut down i think.
I have loaded a small free proggy called MonSD that allows me to click on icon and shutdown monitor. This appears to get over my problem as i can now decide with a simple click when to turn off monitor.
