** Windows Picture & Fax Viewer **

Hi All:

How do I remove the Windows Picture & Fax Viewer from my computer?

This just started, every time I open a GIF file or animation it wants to use this program.

Before they opened with Internet Explorer, If I use Open With and Choose Program and check the "Always Use The Selected Program To Open This Kind Of File" it don't stay.

So I desided to remove that program, I never use it anyway, but I can't find anywhere to remove it.

Can you help me?

Have you tried changing the Folders File association settings?

Control panel > Folder Options > File types tab > find the gif file and change the program associated with it.

Remove Picture and Fax Viewer

It can be removed as follows: [Start] [Run] type regedit.exe and click [OK]
Navigate to :

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/SystemFileAssociations/image/ShellEx /ContextMenuHandlers
then delete the Folder ShellImagePreview under ContextMenuHandlers

Note: If you want to restore the Picture and Fax Viewer :

Create the ShellImagePreview folder and create the String Value (Default)
Assign it the value {e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}

I tried the File Types Tab, it was associated with Internet Explorer already.

I deleted the ShellimagePreview folder.

It still wanted to open with Picture and Fax Viewer, so I rebooted and tried it again, still wants to open with Picture and Fax Viewer.

I did a Find to see if there was another ShellimagePreview folder, but it didn't find any.

The Picture and Fax Viewer is still in the computer and working.

What do you think I should try next.
