I have been trouble shooting an issue with a Dell 8400 with a 160gb sata drive and 2.5gb ram that will not boot in either normal or safe mode. It stops after the user login at a BSOD Bad_pool_caller. I searched all over the internet and found several fixes that did not work.
Tried so far 1. Scanned Hard drive for spyware and viruses using my bench machine with AVG/SPYBOT/Malware Bytes and VundoFix 1. A manual restore by replacing the system, sam, software, security and default files from many earlier times but not fix. 2. Removed all memory and replace with 1 sick at a time in different locations 3. Removed all cards (except the video card) 4. Deleted modem files (read that these may cause problems) 5. I have even tried to do a reinstall of XP home w/ a sp3 slipstream cd (i have used before) and at 34 min remaining I got the same error. I have been working at this for 2 days and I am fed up! Mark |

Press F12 on startup and run Dell diagnostics.

I did the Dell testing and it did fail. I found it interesting that the chkdsk /r did not find any errors but the dell test did. I am currently reinstalling the os with a slipstream disk with sp3 after replacing the drive.
Thanks again. |

After I reinstalled the OS and got all of the software reinstalled I updated windows and after several tests everything looked perfect. I had several reboots and it was running smoothly. I reinstalled the modem and decided to restore the user files.
I left the system to copy back all of the files then went to check on it and it was in a continuous reboot cycle. I disabled the reboot on failure and I am now back at the Bad_pool_caller again. I am ready to chuck this system and just buy a new one...Man I hate Microsoft. Heeellllpppp!!! |

Try not to copy your backups nor do a restore in the freshly formatted computer for the time being and just do your stuff (browsing, downloading, etc.) with it for testing purposes.Your backups may have a virus.
If this works fine after a while then it's a virus problem. If the BSOD still appears even without your files/backups then it's a hardware problem. |
