smokin win xp questions.

Hello to all.

I have a compueter that by someone install a windows xp pro.
and after a couple of years I received a message that my copy is not a genuine
I tried to find the stiker on the pc but I could not find it.
So I want to reinstall a new copy, but I don't want to losse my data.
Can you help me with the staeps to follow to reistall windows.
I have buyed a retail windows xp pro. already.

smokin windows media player problem.

I hava dowloaded the wmp 11 but when I want to running it giving me a notice
to validate then I click continue and run a windows wizard then give me a result that
my windows it is not a GENUINE COPY.

but I have running an update windows and it do it with no problem.
So any idea of what is happing.

Have you done the repair install with your NEW CD and NEW KEY, and activated Windows?

No yet.
I call microsoft and they said that the key on the computer it have been locked.
so I have to do a upgrade of the new key.

but I have a question If I do a windows repair do I lose my aplications?.

Because I want to do a repair and then run a windows upgrade tool software
to replace and activate my new key.

Please read the thread I linked. A repair install will not do anything to your data.

The install will ask for a key, put in the NEW key, then when it's installed, it will activate online with no problem. Then you can start running updates.
