server 2003 auto shutdown w/ domain controller?

I've got small business server 2003 running in a workgroup as a backup server. I didn't register it, but it's activated. It shuts down since it's not the domain controller, but I don't want a domain setup since I'm unfamiliar with that, and only have a workgroup. How can I prevent it from shutting down automatically?

I've never seen a computer shut down automatically unless someone has put a shutdown batch file into the task scheduler or it overheats.

It's happened before when I did an install on another computer with the same software. We used it as a domain controller at the time, but now I'm using it as a backup server in a workgroup situation and it wants to shutdown unless I change it.
