System Perfomance Monitoring W2K3 TS

I have small Windows 2003 Terminal Sever. I need a way of monitoring the system performance and if possibly sending an email when a certain thresholds has been met. I'd like something lightweight and free and/or open source. Anybody know of something right off hand? Is there something built into Windows or something from Microsoft that will do this?

Thanks!

I've never used it...But, right click on My Computer->Manage and read up-look at the built in Performance Monitor.

I've actually used that when I have a Desktop from that server but I'm managing this remotely so the ability to send email alerts is really what I'm looking at. Something that can monitor the simple performance metrics like what task manager shows and send them to an smtp server.

Let me know if you see anything else.

I went to my favorite site:

http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/freeware.html

And searched on: "Performance Monitor" and this is one of many that came up:

Performance Monitoring Protocol (PMP) is a tool that allows remote server performance monitoring for multiple NT/2K servers. It allows to monitor real time CPU, memory usage status and can send an email alert message in case of a specified server status (e.g low memory). The program includes the PMP Agent, which installs on the server, as well as PMP Admin, which is the standalone administration client to monitor the server. Unfortunately, the PMP agent cannot run as an NT service, which limits it`s usability. While the Agent can only run on Win2K/NT/XP, the admin tool can run on Win95/98/ME as well. Price includes license to monitor a single server.

Well, googling for "system monitoring" brings up a whole slew of results. A few look like they might apply, a number don't.

One app I used was called Spiceworks.

One of its features was the ability to define thresholds for various things (low printer ink, full HDDs, etc), and had the ability to send email alerts for them. The catch was you had to have an available SMTP server. You can either use an account that has POP3/SMTP access, or set up a Virtual SMTP in IIS.

This looks promising. We have an SMTP server so that will work. I'll try it and hopefully report back with good news.

Thanks for the rest of the suggestions and if you find anymore let me know.
