XP Installation Issue

I have just built a new system and am trying to install an OEM version of windows xp on it. The system boots fine and begins to run the xp setup but when it starts, my usb keyboard quits working. So when it asks a few minutes later to press enter to continue the installation I cannot. The keyboard works however before the install starts, i can get to bios and change settings etc.

1. I have tried multiple keyboards and different usb ports. The motherboard is dx58so and only has usb ports, no ps/2

2. I have checked to make sure usb is enabled in bios and have updated bios to most current version.

3. I have called tech support who suggested that usb drivers are not up to date and said I needed to take it in to local computer store which said they wanted 130 dollars to troubleshoot and install xp.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate any help I can get. Otherwise I'll bite the bullet and pay someone else to deal with it...

Usually during new installs you should use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse just in case a problem would arise like this one. I suggest finding one or a USB to PS/2 adapter and that would fix this problem easily.

Is this an oem windows from a dell or another computer like that?

Try restarting the computer. I had that problem, and it worked for me once.

It is a new OEM version I bought from Newegg.com so it shouldn't be from another computer.

I'll try to find an adapter for USB to ps/2 and see what happens...

Running a PS/2 keyboard with a PS/2 to USB adapter will not change anything.

Missed that part. I refrain from my suggestion.

My apologies SV66.
