New to Server Stuff
I have an older system that I would like to use as a server for our church. The only things it would be used for is email, web page hosting and streaming video to the web. It has a slightly faster than 1Ghz processor, 256 Mb ram, LAN, 1 - 40Gb HD and is currently running Windows XP Pro w/ SP3. Internet connection is via ADSL modem / wireless capable router provided by the local phone company Traffic will not be great to this unit, at least to start with. Our church is a small congregation with minimal financial resources and we wish to do this with the least investment possible.
I've read the suggestion of the host of this site about using Windows 2000 server and would like to know: 1. Is the system as described capable of being used as a server? 2. Is the OS mentioned the most appropriate and cost effective OS to do what we are attempting? |

You are asking for a can of worms. I'd recommend you use an external host, check out http://www.surpasshosting.com. It can be as cheap as $4 a month.
