WinXP 32 bit Downgrade from Vista32 bit

There is an issue with XP concerning the DVD Rom reading DVD's after downgrading from Vista. I simply formatted my HDD and installed XP. The DVD Rom worked as I made a backup of all the music files I own within Vista. After the XP install, the DVD RW stopped reading DVDs and any media written to a DVD completely. The drive reads regular CDs and CDRWs, but no DVDs and it's freaking me out for real. The drive is a tsstcorp cd dvdw ts-L632d which has been giving many people this same problem for some reason. I have searched and searched the forums from Google hits and everything.

I have read many tutorials which say to go into the Regedit and turn off the upper and lower filters, but I don't even have those filters available to turn off or delete as I navigate to the appropriate folder which holds these files. If there's anyone out there who have any solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it very much. Below are the specifications of the Laptop that I'm trying to recover the DVDs original state.

HP Pavilion Entertainment PC dv6500 The HP support site doesn't have this model listed
AMD Athlon x64 dual Core as there is only the dv6500CTO and other similar
nVidia GeForce 7150M on nForce 630 models, but not this one without following prefixes

If anyone can help me recover the DVD properties please post your findings and inform me of your expertise. I did manage to clear up all 11 yellow exclamation errors within the Device Manager though. I found all the drivers for the internal components and yet the DVD still will not read DVDs. Is it that the drive is about to go or not? What indicators are present to inform you of when a DVD rom is about to out. Should it still read regular CDs and not DVDs or what!!! HEEEEEELLLLP!

Not sure if this will help but when I got my alienware comp last fall my main dvd drive wouldn't read dvd's either. After spending days on the phone with tech support and replacing the dvd unit with another one from alienware, I remember the region settings might be wrong. You can check it by right clicking "my computer", select properties, hardware, device manager and right click on your dvd drive. Once that opens, select properties, dvd region, then scroll down and select the country you are in and then close that out selecting either apply/ok. You can only change the region setting 4 or 5 times so do this with care. It fixed my problem, hope it helps you.
