Toolbar and start button issues XP
My toolbar and start button disappeared...and I subsequently recovered them - partiallly...will explain.
I am running Compaq Presario sr750nx desktop, 3 gb ram, Win XPsp3, West Digital 1 TB sata hddrv, Geforce 8500 videio card, Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0., Samsung 2232bw monitor, Seagate usb 160 ext backup drv, Coolmax 500 psu. After doing some reshuffling of older backups using multiple usb 2.0 external case/drives, and some re-configuration of windows video display screen, I got an alert from Kaspersky of virus-like activity and authorized it to "take corrective action". It subsequently "hung" and I turned system off after closing everything but the hung Kaspersky program. At later bootup, ...I noticed my lack of screen toolbar and start button. I did a Google search, and found that I could "stretch" the bars up from the very bottom of my screen. Problem partially solved ... but they are "different" boxes now ...less compact and the bar line is much thicker of necessity.... I also did another full antivirus program run on KIS which showed no significant activity (other than the several hundred thousand vulnerabilities it warns of normally!). So I'm looking for a fix to "restore" the original setting of the toolbar and start button. Appreciate your suggestions! |

Are you sure you didn't just lose your screen resolution? Native resolution is 1680x1050, it may have defaulted back to 800x600 or something.

Thank you , GLC! You are quite right. Somehow the screen changed.....I use 1440 x 900 so the font is larger.... so I moved it to the native resolution, and the problem disapppeared....I then set it back to 1440 x 900, and all is well!
It was very perplexing! Glad it is resolved readily! Prior to that, I ran the "free online" Eset anti virus checker, and it identified 2 trojans in a little used SBC program, which were deleted. Don't know if this is what the KIS (kaspersky int secur) was reacting to earlier, or not....Tho it may give lots of notices, normally in the past the KIS doesnt' interfere with any activities on my system. |
