XP cloned and configured - problem
Having problem with cloned WinXP drive ...used msconfig.exe and Trend Int Security 2009 scan .. now Pinnacle hdtv (usb) doesn't work, and Yahoo requires frequent sign ins thruout day and in entering each program. These are probably minor given what has been done, but I don't know how to fix them and help is appreciated.
System is a Dell INspiron 700m notebook running WinXP sp3, 2 gb ram, newly cloned & installed Seagate 120 gb ide hddrv, Trend INt Sec 2009, Firefox & Itunes & MS Office 2000, West Dig 160 2.5" ext drv backup. After cloning/installing hddrv, the system config was used to minimize all processes other than MSoft. Also, Trend ran security/AV check and deleted a ton of cookies. Later, msconfig specs were changed to include processes of additional programs, etc., but the problems with Yahoo and Pinnacle TV/radio usb remained. Any thoughts what to do? Should I re-install Yahoo and Pinnacle software? IF so, how to prevent data loss (favorites, etc) on Yahoo... Complication - daughter now in NYC with notebook & complaints - I am trying to solve here in Ohio! Help greatly appreciated! |

Please give some details about the steps you took to clone. Did you clone from the same PC and what software did you use, and did you do it via boot floppy or cdrom?

Clone was made using Acronis true 2009 ...on my desktop Compaq Presario sr1750nx. The orig Toshiba 60 was removed and connected usb in an external case, and the destination 120 gb drive was also connected usb with connectors, no case. Acronis clone directions were followed.
Hope that helps! |

So if I understand you correctly you cloned XP from another PC or laptop and then put that cloned drive into the Dell laptop. I'm trying to get a handle on where the source drive came from that you used to clone from. If it wasn't from the same laptop, then it suprising it even booted up at all.

No, you're not following....
Laptop drv removed, usb connection to desktop; new laptop drv (destination drv) connects to desktop usb; both drvs connected usb to Compaq desktop with Acronis on it, which cloned the old laptop drv to new dest. laptop drv. Cloned Destination drv then installed in laptop. No boot problems whatsoever....good ad for Acronis! I do not think that the cloning created the problem here.... more likely the system config box of msconfig.exe. |

Yes I follow you now, and you are probably right, in that something was unchecked in the startup tab of msconfig that needs checked. Thats the nice thing about using the msconfig utility is that you can just go back in and put the checkmark back in the box of whatever it is you unchecked that you need to run at startup..

Will post back as soon as am capable ... daughter has not gotten back to me with changes as requested yet. Hopefully the check all approach will restore programs operations.
Thanks. |
