XP Home Networking problem

I'm trying to copy a massive directory from my wife's computer (massive in terms of folders and sub-folders, not so much size) to my computer. The copy process goes along for a while, then crashes due to an access denied error. Both computers use Windows-XP Home Edition.

I booted her computer in safe mode and checked the security tab. The files that have access denied do not belong to the Everyone group. This group seems to be necessary for file sharing on Windows XP Home. Now, I can assign them one at a time on the security tab, but doing it that way it will take too long to do it. The vast majority of the files are OK for copying across the network. Just finding the exceptions is a pain.

Is there any way I can assign the Everyone group to all the files all at once?
How do these files get that way in the first place?

Yes, you can apply permissions to a whole folder structure. Boot it in safe mode and log in as Administrator to do it. Right click on the parent folder and use the same procedure as you used for the individual files.

I'm lost. On the folder level, the security tab show the folder has the everyone group assigned to it. It doesn't seem to propagate down to the files in the folder. Should I be looking at another tab?

Hit the Advanced button.

This is Win2K, yours will look slightly different, but the concept is the same.

Thanks, that seems to have done it.
