Can't Install Additional Languages on XP

Hello all,

I've been trying to install Arabic on my computer. I can see other people's Arabic text, but I cannot type it myself.

Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options -->Install Files for Complex Script and right-to-left Languages

After this, it prompts me for the Windows XP CD. I put in the Windows XP CD, but it still cannot find the files needed to install.

I've tried searching for the language pack download online, but I couldn't find anything that would work.

I have Windows XP SP3(updated)... if you need more information I will be glad to provide...

Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Configuring Support for Multiple Languages
You can add, enable, and configure support for multiple languages by using the Regional Settings tool in Control Panel. To change the default language, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Regional and Language Options.
Click the Languages tab, click Details, and then click Add.
Under Input Language, add the language that you want to use.
Under Keyboard layout/IME, click the keyboard layout that you want, and then click OK.

Note Only users who have administrator permissions on the local computer can configure the following options on the Languages tab in Regional and Language Options:

Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages(Including Thai).
Install files for East Asian Languages.

Under input languages Arabic does not even appear. I've tried almost everything under the Regional and Language Options... is there anything I need to download?

thanks!

From Vista's Help File: (XP should have similar info)

How do I get additional language files?

With additional language files, you can change the display language on your computer so that you can view wizards, dialog boxes, menus, Help topics, and other items in Windows in a different language.

There are two types of language files:

Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI).* Windows Vista MUIs provide a translated version of most of the user interface. MUIs require a license to be used and are only available with Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Enterprise. If you are using Windows Vista Ultimate, you can download MUIs by using Windows Update. If you are using Windows Vista Enterprise, contact your system administrator for information about installing additional languages.

To get additional MUIs by using Windows Update
MUIs are available through Windows Update as optional updates; they are not installed automatically.

Click to open Windows Update.

In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

If any updates are found, click View available updates.

Select the MUI that you want, and then click Install updates. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Note
If Windows doesn't find any updates when you click Check for updates, wait a day and then try again.

Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP).* Windows Vista LIPs provide a translated version of the most widely used areas of the user interface. LIPs are freely available to download, and most LIPs can be installed and used on any edition of Windows Vista. Because not all of the user interface is translated, LIPs require at least one parent language. The parts of the user interface that are not translated into the LIP language are displayed in the parent language. When you download a LIP, you get the parent language requirements for that language. The parent language pack needs to be installed before the LIP can be installed. For more information, including a list of languages available for downloading, go to the Microsoft Local Language website.

EzyStvy,

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, nothing has worked so far! Is this because I have Windows XP Home edition?!

I need to type Arabic for my class.... and my professor showed me step by step how to add Arabic keyboard functionality... but when he did it, he was not prompted for a Windows XP cd.
(I'm not sure what exact OS my university uses, but I think they use Windows XP Professional enterprise? I know they don't have vista on many computers... )

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your time!

Trouble installing keyboard support for multiple languages

Hello all,

I've been trying to set up my keyboard so I can type in Arabic.

I've tried:
1. Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Languages tab --> Supplemental Language Support --> When I start the install, I am prompted to enter a Windows XP cd

Then it says:
"The file c_00021.nls on Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM is needed"

I am not sure if there is a problem with my CD, but it looks fine to me. (No scratches, well-kept in the case)

2. Tried to get the Supplemental Language Support through Windows Update

Is there any other way to get the keyboard language support that I need? I need to type Arabic for my class...

Thanks for your time!!

1) do you have an OEM or retail version of XP?
2) is your version of XP a recovery disk from a company like Dell that you got when you purchased the PC from them?

I had an OEM version of XP on my Dell Laptop --> So I tried to burn the i386 folder to a DVD and load it that way --> No luck...
