I have had to replace a failed hard drive on my sisters PC. I did a single partition install of XP Pro which went great. I then put in the Intel Express Installer CD and installed garbage that I did not intend to install and would now like to just do a fresh install of the OS and take greater care to install just what I want from the Intel Express Installer cd. What is the cleanest steps to perform a reformat and install from the point at which I am at?

Instead of using the intel cd, just download all the drivers before hand and install them manually. That should keep the system as clean as possible.
Would do a fresh windows install again if you want that, or to make it easier, just uninstall the stuff that was installed that you don't want.

Yeah, I considered that, but to be honest I am not always confident that uninstall always cleans up fragments of useless registry entries, ect. While I am here I may as well get it as near pristine as I can. I got it last night or early this morning rather. Now of all things I find that when I replaced the mobo from bench testing during troubleshoot, I folded over a ground tab on the component backplate and the whole Ethernet RJ-45 socket is covered. Wow, what a bugger to remove mobo mount screws to correct! Oh, well....haste makes waste, I guess.
