Installing new OS in Laptop

I have a Compaq Presario R-3000- R3306US With Windows XP installed AMD CPU
The support page says that it was not designed to upgrade to Windows Vista.

Is it possible to install a new hard drive, if I can find one, and then install Windows 7 ?

The Laptop has been rarely used and is working flawlessly.

I can still use XP but how long will I be able to ?

There are people still running Windows98
So XP will run..probably till the lappy dies and goes to pc heaven.

If you can't find drivers for Vista - finding drivers for Win7 will be as hard. You can probably get the machine to run Win7 but might find that you can't get things like the network adaptor to work.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. XP will outlast the laptop.
