You have to tell when and what to debug.

You MUST type Debug followed by the path to where the file is you want to debug and then the name of the file you want to debug. (see my first post
)

I am obviously not making myself clear, please look at attachment, it clearly states that when you hit enter it should respond with a hyphen prompt. This i cannot get, i would like to know what i have to do to get it so that i can enter the rest of the request.

EzyStvy, it is a small programme that can be found on many sites that should enable you to reset bios instead of removing memory batt to do the same thing. Looks very simple and saves opening up case etc.

The debug utility on its own won't be able to do that.

I am sorry about this forceflow but it works on my Daughters computer, that is when debug is entered the cursor moves down ready to accept the next input. I cannot get this to happen as i have shown previously therefore there must be something missing or corrupted on my computer which is stopping this occuring. Any ideas please as to how i can regain this facility?
I also do not understand why it should not work as numerous sites have this procedure on them, surely they cant all be wrong. |

I've been messin with computers for years and have never heard of this...Maybe cause it takes 13 second to open the case and pop out the battery.
Then again, I've gone 10 years and haven't needed to pop out the battery for anything except to replace it. 1. It'd be interesting to know why you need to debug the bios. 2. Posting a link to this stuff would probably really help. We're all missing a few steps. Did you download this debug app and place it on a floppy by any chance? If so then you have to change the directory to the A: drive. Some mobo's will allow you to update the BIOS from within Windows. Many mobos won't allow this...Maybe your daughters pc is entirly different from yours. |

I have not downloaded any programme, i am talking about the ms-dos debug built into xp.
I cannot change the boot order because i am locked out of bios set up. I was intending to remove battery but i came across this other way of resetting bios which appeared very simple,ha ha. I am going to try to get into debug tomorrow on my Sons computer which is identical to mine. We are running award bios on xp home. Will let you know how it goes, thanks. |

Ezystvy, have checked debug on my Sons identical computer and it enters as per the book, that is when you write debug after the ( C:\>debug ) and then enter it is accepted and the cursor moves down a line waiting for next input. This is where my system is going wrong and as yet i have not found a fix although i have trolled the web extensively. Found this and tried, still no luck.

Maybe this is why you cannot get the debug to run, try resetting it manually and see what happens.

Open it up, remove the battery, and walk away for a few hours.

Hi all, Have removed batt and refitted, this has removed the password lockout on the bios OK.
I still have the problem with the DEBUG but i guess i will have to leave as is because i have been on numerous forums and nobody has even come up with a suggestion. Maybe if i have to do a system repair at some time this will fix it. Thanks all anyway. |

For anybody who has the same problem i have carried out this fix, now debug works OK and certainly saves opening up computer and taking out bios battery.
I looked in my Windows system32 folder and found that the debug.exe was missing, downloaded a copy from web onto a floppy, put it into the system32 folder and bingo it works. Hope this is of help to someone as i could not find this suggestion anywhere on web. |
