Is this a store bought model or home built?

Bought it from ZT Group on line and has worked for me since 07. My psu fan has been making a noise at startup and is failing. I have a replacment coming. Could this maybe the cause of wins crash?? I am using kubuntu and it is working fine.

List all parts, make and model including power supply.

Have you run hard drive diagnostics?

Have you run memtest?

What happens if you try to zero fill the hard drive and then reinstall windows?

Sorry For not replying sooner but PC crashed due to a weak PSU. PSU replaced and I am up and running again. Replaced Kubuntu 06 with Ubuntu 09. My XP recovery Cd will not restore XP. Error message is that XP can't see my SATA HD. This recovery cd must be a OEM version and not a full version that came w/ the computer. Thanks for your help.

You probably need the SATA drivers on a floppy in order for XP to see the drive, or the controller mode needs to be changed in the bios settings.

Without SPECS, we can't really advise you properly!
