depends on how handy are u with computers.

if you are comfortable playing with the registry then
you can "edit" your registry and change the letters from there.

-"run regedit"
- go to " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices "
-under leftside panel's "Name" section, you can "swap" the drive letters around.

ie:
assgin DVD C: to Z: { by right-click on "\DOSDEVICE\C: and select "Modify" }
assign XP hard drive E: to C: { by right-click on "\DOSDEVICE\E: and select "Modify" }
now assign DVD to be E:
done.

An easier way to do it is through the diskmanagement console .. http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/harddrive2.htm and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844

It is recommended that you dont change the drive letter on your system drive. However, what you could do is to assign it another letter (for example, change your dvd drive to D: and assign C: to your XP drive IN ADDITION to E.

If it's a new install, I would just do it over. Format and reinstall. This time disconnect all other drives, including any usb/sd card drives you have.

Make sure only the cd drive and the primary hard drive are connected.

thanks all, I did go through the diskmanagement tool and it would not let me change my hard disk letter. So it's really not hurting anything if i just leave it as is for now. Honestly i'm not one to mess around with the registry.
Thanks EzyStvy, shadowpr and Statica for the feedback

I would recommend you start over and do it right. Having your Windows installation on drive E is going to bite you in the butt somewhere down the line.
