installing XP Pro on used laptop
I just bought a Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop on ebay without an operating system. I would like to know if I can use my retail version of XP Pro on it and use the XP Pro key sticker no.'s that are on the laptop, thanks.

Nope. You can't mix OEM and Retail keys/cd's.

Borrow ANY Dell XP reinstall CD. It will install without requiring a key and it will not require activation. Have all the necessary drivers downloaded and on a USB key or something.

Since it didn't have a HDD I will be adding that and will that cause any problems? On ebay they have Dell reinstallation disks with XP Pro SP2 very cheap, will it work okay or do the reinstallation disk have to be specifically for the Dell Inspiron 2650, thank you again.
