Laptop won't install SP3
Hello everyone, I'm currently cleaning up a friends laptop. It had all sorts of viruses and what not that I did manage to get rid of (I used Spybot Search & Destroy). Its all good to go now (no more viruses) and its fully functional. I am now installing all the windows updates to keep it secure. I then go to install SP3 and it won't install. It downloads fine but when it tries to install I get an error message saying, "Failed to install Service Pack 3, you need an update to install this, please install Service Pack 3." .....does that make any sense? I tried to install it multiple times after restarting and still the same error. The laptop has XP Media Edition ver. 2002 w/ SP2. Has anyone else ever came across this problem? Please help.

edit : You may need the installer update if the only updates you've installed are the critical security ones.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803 There are also updates released specifically for the media center version that you may have missed : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...r/default.mspx
