Question Can I install XP on my new build?

I am building a new desktop PC. My components are:

EP45-UD3P Gigabyte motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 processor
8GB on board memory
Two Western Digital hard drives (1 tb each drive)
LG 22X DVD rewriter (internal)

The operating system that I want to install is Windows 7. Win 7 does not come out until October 2009. My system is almost built. I do have Windows XP Home edition. Question: Can I install XP on the machine (described above) then when Win 7 comes out install Win 7 (upgrade version) onto the machine? If I can do this, this will give me an Op system until October 2009. Thank you.

If your XP Home key code isn't already being used then you should be good to go.

Yes, you can *purchase* the upgrade, but you can't actually install win7 to *upgrade* XP's O/S. Win7 has to be a fresh install.

So, ForceFlow, does that mean that the upgrade version will be a "Full version" DVD, but will require a key for a previous version to get it to install?

While I can't find sources to verify what exactly you'll need for the upgrade process, having the XP Key handy would be logical, plus the XP CD in case it is asked for.

Yeah, I guess it could read off of it. I was just trying to reconcile a fresh install but upgrade;
