user authentication on WINXP pc
I'm administering a network of above 50 WINXP users using a Windows Server 2003 Server. We have a software installed on the server and which all users access through their clients on the network drive.
Recently during boot up some pcs require the server password in order to access the network drive. I've tried to use userctrlpwd which doesnt still store the password. Also I tried searching the server on the network and saved the password. In some it worked but there are two other client pcs which still require passwords each time the start. What can be the issue? There are no domains, only workgroups. |

Have you checked the simple files sharing options on the client machines?
Open any folder and go to Folder Options. Then click on the VIEW tab and scroll all the way to the bottom. There should be a check box for simple files sharing. Check that box if it isn't and try your shares again.

user authentication on WINXP pc
I've tried all that to no avail. I even disconnected and reconnected the network drive on both problem pcs, but nothing.

Make sure, all of the users have the right to access to the folder. I think this is a access right issue.

There must be something set on those 2 PCs.
Is the workgroup name the same? Maybe somebody changed some part of the network rights or properties. Can the server see the client PCs? |
