Message to activate XP but already activated
One of my machines is coming up with the message to activate Windows. (XP) It is already activated and when I go to reactivate it, it tells me that it is already activated but I still get the message and says I have 1 month to activate it.
I don't have the disc for the OS cos the computer was bought second hand with the OS installed. What do I do to stop this happening? I have had the computer for some 3 years and have never got this message before. What can I do and what will happen if I let it go past the 1 month deadline.

I got the same message after I changed out the motherboard in my wifes computer. And then again got the same message when I changed out the motherboard in my computer. The automated system for reactivation will not work with that code, so what you have to do is call Microsoft (in India obviously) and plead your story to the person on the phone. He or she will direct you to an obscure place in your operating system. (I forgot how to get there. Its Run/cmd/something) You will read off the numbers and letters that are there to the person on the phone. They will then read off some numbers and letters that you fill in to the blank spaces on the screen. This will reactivate your Windows.
You don't need the code that came with your computer to do this. You use that code for your initial activation. In fact the automated activation system will reject that code saying your OS has already been activated using that code. I went through this BS twice, I know.
