Hi Gang
Let me start by sayng I have done all and I mean all the normal things that can cause this problem, Defrag, Temps, checked off things with startup, etc. It takes like shut down 3 to 4 min, and start up after I put in my password until the desktop shows up like 6 to 8 mins. I have run anti virus, and malware programs nothing shows up there. Nothing new added like programs, deleted some old ones, etc. Now I know this is an old XP computer but this happened like over night. It has at least 3G's of ram, (and I took them out and reseated them) that did not change anything, and it has a good power supply. Once everything gets up and going it is like it's old self, fairly fast for an older computer. I use IE 8, nothing changed there. So if you could give me some ideas of what to check, starting ffrom the most likely to the least likely. Thanx....Gunny

Ok I will do that. Does this sound like a HD issue.? It sort of does to me. I mean it just drags, and this XP computer often surprised me at how good it ran 99% of the time. The drives are old so for them to be getting tired is to be expected I guess. I might just do that cloning thing to this drive too. I want to keep my XP even though I do use the Win 7 computer more often. Plus I have some copies of Win 7 coming too. Ha ha I have enough posts now so I can put up my Avitar, with your approval. Thanx and take care....Gunny |

I would suggest running IE in no add-ons mode. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) to see if one is causing the problem. If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and change the Show setting on the left to All Add-ons, then select all of the add-ons listed and click Disable All. You can then enable the add-ons one by one to find which one is causing the problem.
Or, at least first try managing your add-ons. In IE go to Tools->Manage Add-ons and disable any unecessary add-ons such as those with more than a .2 second load time. Hope that helps. Feran Internet Explorer Outreachh Team |

Hi Feran
Ok I will give that a go. I have disabled a bunch of them I know but I will check again. I am sure doing enough of these so called small things, will add up to make your start up and shut down faster, no doubt. Thanx...Gunny |

You're welcome, let me know if that helps or if you figure out which if any add-on was causing the problem.
Thanks! |
