turn off monitor in XP

Hello people....well its been awhile ...I have seen this on some of my other builds as well as my new one...That said if I go into control panel/power options/power schemes and set turn off monitor say after 3 minutes. It works for awhile but then eventually it doesn't shut the monitor off I have to go in and set it for say two minutes and apply /okay and that will work for awhile..

Does the monitor have a power button you can push as you're getting up to leave the machine?

But, are there other applications running that could be waking it up? New Email pye message??
