Automatic updates problem

When I turn off my computer the words, "Click turn off to install important updates, turn off your computer........". However nothing is installed and the sign does not go away.

Automatic Updates program has a list of updates which have failed to be installed.

I run XP SP3 and have checked the download settings at "Tools".

Any suggestions? I seem to have become a problem magnet!

Go to Windows Update manually and see what it offers you.

Settings seem ok but there are a lot of updates which haven't been updated. They all give the same error - 0x643

Pardon my ignorance but my computer has the following which are not mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100, do they have other names?:-

Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (kb928366)
Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Service Park 2
Microsoft.NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2

If I make a mistake would Restore Point work?

Confused!!!

You should uninstall all the .NET Framework, as the article indicates.

The uninsatall/install process took about 6 hours but everything seems to be ok now.
Thank you very much once again
