blue screen at startup for xp

ok so i just got a new mobo, cpu, gpu, and ram. i put it all togther and connected everything. i have 3 HDDs 2 IDE and 1 SATA. and my dvd r/rw is also IDE, but my motherboard can only have 2 IDE's connected at the time. Well the one IDE is a 20gb that i installed Ubuntu onto, and the other was a 80gb so i took out the 20gb. only to come across an error when i went to turn on the computer that grub couldn't load. So i disconnected the 80gb and reconnected the 20gb in it's place so i could start up the computer and get rid of ubuntu, Well when i get to the grub loader i pick windows and it goes to the Windows XP logo and then i get that Blue screen which i think yous know which one i'm talking about. The one that tells you that if it happens again to run chkdsk /f. so i google what to do and people said throw in the XP cd go to repair and run chkdsk. i do that but only /f doesnt work, so i do /r, it says it found errors on the harddrive and fixed them. so i restart. Try to load windows again but get the same blue screen. So now i have no idea what to do, and am helpless. Any help would be appreciated.

btw the harddrive i have XP installed on is a SATA 1tb with a 60gb partitioned for windows and the rest partitioned as another drive.

also i realized a little while ago i had a back up of my C: drive on my other harddrive. I used acronis to load it back in restarted, and it goes to the Windows logo then back to the motherboard screen like its rebooting and starts all over again. I don't want to wipe the drive and reinstall windows because im not too sure that it's going to work anyway, if neither of these 2 options have worked yet.

You're familiar with the concept of DRIVERS aren't you? Your hard drive with XP is full of the wrong drivers for your new mobo....

In theory - a repair install should help out...I'd copy the important files off the drive and do a clean forma t and install.

there is no R option, just ENTER=Install, D=Delet Partition and F3=Quit

and if i hit Enter it says "To install windows xp on the partition you selected, setup must write some startup files to the following disk: 19470 MB Disk 0 at Id 1 on bus 0 atapi [MBR]
However, this disk does not contain a windows xp-compatible partition. To continue installing...."

that HD is the 20gb i have ubuntu installed on. So im guessing the MBR is all messed up because i had it set to dual boot? Can anyone help me with this?

That is correct. It has grub. You will have to do what you need to do to remove grub, or zero fill the drive.

alright i got rid of grub. ran the windows repair, and now when it gets to the Windows logo it loads a bit and then a different blue screen comes up saying:

"Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart..."

so im guessing the repair didn't work and i should do a clean install? =(

EDIT: I tried to run it in safe mode, but a box pops up that says Windows Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup will restart now. Last known config. doesn't work either.

What are the details of the stop message? There should be a stop code, such as "STOP: 0x0000007B" and possibly a reference to a specific file.

Can I assume that your Windows partition is not full or close to it?

um im not sure what the stop message was. I got so frustrated i just clean installed xp. But i saved an image of the partition of my old one just incase i could find a solution and save my files on my c: drive. it wasn't even near full. i had a 60gb partition for my c: drive and it was only around 15-20gb full.

EDIT: and now im having some trouble with the clean install =( for some reason my drive letters got switched around (I think acronis did it) and my C: was now D: my H: was now E: and my F: was now C: and i didnt think it would matter so i installed the mobo drivers and graphics drivers. and on the restart after installing the graphics drivers i got an NTLDR missing. so i did some things to try and save it without clean installing again but of course it didn't work. so now im in the process of installing it again, this time i unplugged the drive that said it was C: even tho it wasnt in hopes that the partition im installing windows on will name itself C:

When doing clean installs, always unplug all drives except the one you are installing on. Also unplug card readers and any external drives - and all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
