WinXP Home / Pro question
A buddy of mine has an old laptop with WindowsXP Home on it. The computer came with XP home installed from Toshiba and he has no backup or OS disc. The Home product key is on the label on the bottom of the laptop.
The computer has crashed and he wants to replace the old 40GB HD with a larger drive. I have a Legal disc for WinXP Pro that I bought a couple years ago when i built a machine. My question is simple... Can I use my WinXP Pro disc to do a clean install on his machine and then just use the Home key he has? If NOT - what are my options? Thanks guys - |

The Home key won't work with a Pro install, AFAIK. *Might* be able to install from another Home disc if you can come up with a copy and use that key.....not 100% sure on that since it's a prebuilt that uses an OEM copy of the OS to begin with. Some of those OS's are keyed to the bios....dunno whether Toshibas are or not. Maybe someone else will know for sure and post on that.
