Network Adapter Not Detected
Folks I have a P4 with Windows XP Pro new installation but it won't detect Network Adapter.
I already tried about 3 different Ethernet Adapters, cables and even moved one of them to another slot but still negative. No entries found in Device Manager at all, nada. I even checked bios but do not see any related settings. The mobo does not have on board Network Adapter. Any help appreciated. Dave Last edited by bellsnwhistles; 12-07-2009 at 08:41 PM. |

Have you installed the chipset drivers for the motherboard?

Without the chipset drivers, plug and play won't work right.

I downloaded Everest Home Edition and found a Intel Brookdale i845 so I went to the Intel Website and downloaded Chipset Utility. It identified the chipset as Intel 845 chipset so I started looking for drivers of which I found several graphics drivers so I searched the website and found several intel and GigaBit 100 etc Network Adapters but none for the Network adapters that I have.
I am still assuming the drivers should be there but I did not see from my search anything related to my network adapters. I tried a few and they failed. When I searched for the Linsys, SMC Adapter nothing was found. How do I find the drivers for these adapters? Thanks for any help. Dave Last edited by bellsnwhistles; 12-07-2009 at 11:11 PM. |

Hmm I tried restarting the pc and now it is trying to detect my network adapter so I ran the add new hardware to automatically search but it found nothing.
The network adapter is now listed in device manager however with no conflicts. So I changed the network cable and now it's working. Maybe something in those failed drivers must worked I don't get it. I will continue checking that website however and see if I can find any other drivers and install them. Thanks folks Dave |

The driver you need is the "Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility", also known as "INF Update Utility".
