PC Booting issue

I have a old P3 600 with XP pro on it SP3 just installed two days ago. Going to use as a file share between other pc's.

If the PC is off & then turned on I get a Pri master failure, if I alt ctrl del it boots fine... If I just restart the PC it boots fine.

The HD is on its own IDE cable & I even tried unplugging the CD rom thinking it was a conflict between master & slave but it still does it.

BIOS shows the HD just fine & I even pulled the BIOS battery.

Any ideas?

Its either the drive going south or the mobo...

Does the mobo have any leaking caps?
Is the mobo battery still good?

What brand is the drive, and exactly how is it cabled and jumpered? What's the brand and model of the power supply?
