XP want boot

Hi, I have been working on a PC for a friend all day. He had taken it to a shop and was told it was the PS. Nope. It fires up fine, but the first time it said the "ntldr files are missing". I thought I could just do a clean install, but I get a message saying "press any key to continue-reading error occured-press alt, control, delete to restart". I have tried a couple hard drives and a couple CDrom's, but have the same results. Next I downloaded a file called "fixntldr.exe" and it would not read it either. It said "remove all disk". Am I getting close to finding the MB bad. I could use some help with this one asap. Thanks so much.

Make sure that the CD/DVD drive is set to first boot device in the BIOS. May want to try new cables for the HD and CD drives. Would check the PSU voltages in the BIOS to make sure they are good.
