Which EXT3 driver to use in Win XP
I have the need to access a hard drive from a Linux machine that uses the EXT3 file system. In searching out on the internet I have found multiple drivers that would allow me to access this hard drive in the Win XP environment. I am wondering if anyone in the forums has one that they prefer to use for such a situation.
Thanks. |

You won't need a driver if you network the 2 machines and set up filesharing.

Sorry about the confusion. The Linux hard drive is not is a box. It has been removed and I would like to gain access to it by connecting it up to a Win XP box.

Can't you boot the XP box with a Linux live CD?

I agree with glc here. I have found that alot of those drivers tend to mangle the file system on the disk. In particular, I almost lost a ton of data by using the NTFS-3g driver (for reading NTFS on unix-like systems)

Yep, second (or third) the answer of getting to it from Linux. Make a Linux boot by burning a Live CD for one of the flavors of Linux. Linux can read Windows files but Windows does not read Linux EXT3. Ubuntu or PClinuxos can be downloaded for free but it's a big download like 600 or 700 Mb.

I ended up taking over to a buddies house who had some room on his Linux machine and moved it to his server.
I did try ext3fs explorer with limited success however, it did cause some other issues that I have since cleaned up. |
