server 2000 sp4 - no keyboard/mouse at login
hello everyone. it has been a long time since i have posted here but i am in a bit of a bind and could use some more eyes on this.
i have a dell poweredge 6650 server running windows 2000 server sp4. it has some very important Great Plains data on it that i need to get to. when i boot it up, it gets all the way to the logon screen without an issue. however, when i attempt to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to log on, nothing happens (the numlock is solid and cannot be turned off either) there are no available backups (still looking for the tapes), so i am unable to revert to a backup at this time. i no longer have the great plains media, nor do i remember the version number. the backups that i hope to find are from right after the server was decommissioned, do the data will be the latest pertinent set i have managed to create a virtual version of this system since this issue has occurred (via cold boot). the same issue is happening with the virtual version. at this point i would prefer to experiment on the virtual version for obvious reasons. it is running off MS Virtual PC 2007 i have gone through the ms kb's related to no keyboard/mouse (replacing i8042prt.sys, kbdhid.sys), but that has not helped. for reference - on the physical server, it was running PS/2, so USB was not an issue. on the current virtual machine, the host machine is running a USB set. below is a copy of the boot log: Quote:
i am able to boot the virtual machine using Hiren's and access system files, registry, etc. if anyone has any ideas on how i can resolve this, i would greatly appreciate it. if anyone needs any more information, i would be happy to provide it thanks craig

I got a little lost in all the info you posted...but:
Are you using PS2 or USB keyboard/mouse? Have you tried both types? Can you get into the BIOS to enable Legacy USB Devices? |
