Question Login Log off at Startup.

I am having a startup problem on a repair I am doing for a friend. I removed the viruses from the hard drive by slaving it in another computer. Then put it back in the original machine and it starts up to the log in (no password field), I click on one of the accounts and it starts to log in and then logs out. I see no other start up options during start up except to enter cmos. No F10, 8 option or anything. I took a chance and F10 takes me to the system list screen and then to boot. F8 does nothing. I tried doing a XP repair from the XP disk but after selecting the windows instillation to repair (1), nothing happens accept it just goes to c: prompt. And yes, the recovery is located on a partition but don't know how to access it because can get into windows and startup gives no options and have no recovery disks.

It is a systemax desktop from Tiger Direct. Tried to find some info on it but just found a toll free number.

Anyway!

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you tried to use the console repair. To do a repair install, follow the procedure in the Tips and Tricks forum.

I finally got it to go to the safe mode startup selection by just pushing F8 over and over while booting but it acts the same way in in safe mode.

Sounds like the effects from Internet Security 2010. See thread here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=212338

I took glc's advice and reinstalled. Make sure you get any valuable documents off the drive first.
