\systemRoot\system32\config\DEFAULT

If some on could tell me how to fix this error that would amazing!

I read a similar thread on here but my error is a little different cause it says "default" in caps

Im using windows xp...and my computer is a gateway

It says this on a blue screen:

Stop:c0000218{Registry File Faliure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\systemRoot\system32\config\DEFAULT
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact...adim/tech...for assistance

I've tried googling and stuff, but I don't understand any of it so anyone that has the time to tell me what to do or directed me somewhere would be a lifesaver!

Edit:

in this link:

http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...air_a_stop.htm

I would first run hard drive diagnostics. That error is usually caused by a hard drive that's failing. You can download diagnostics from the hard drive manufacturer (yes, you have to open the case and look at the label on the drive).

Use the command prompt.

how would i download diagnosttics when i cant do anything??

If i put in the recovery dvd, i get two options:
1. restore windows to its orgnial settings(deleting everything)
2. open command prompt

I obviously dont want to delet everything. What would be step one from the restore dvd?

thanks!!!

My suggestion will require a second pc/laptop . Download ultimate boot cd and then burn it to a cd. Boot your defective pc with this cd which will give you a choice of running hardware tools (including hdd diagnostics).

With another computer. The diagnostics will be in ISO format, you use CD burning software to burn it to a CD, which will be bootable.
