windows xp proiblem

Hello

I have a toshiba nb200 with windows xp home

Windows seem to malfunction as of yesterday. All my internet connections are lost , i can't access user accounts ( i am an administrator ) , the user window that opens is blank , windows help wont open , mcafee wont open , i have the old windows taskbar while the xp mode is chosen , the speed seems lower . ctrl + alt + del shows that there is no cpu or memory issue .

I have tried virus scanning with avert stinger , i have tried chkdsk but no result

any other ideas .i'd prefer not to format if possible

Thanks in advance

I don't know if this is your problem, but worth taking a look at
McAfee bug shutting down XP....

Have you tried safe mode? If it will load in safe mode, do a system restore.
