Using Windows XP repair

When I booted up my laptop using WinXP it said that a file was corrupt and said to use windows repair disk and press r. This has happen in the past and was corrected doing this but when I put the windowsXP disk in and select r it tells me to press 1 to repair or enter to esc. I press 1 but nothing happens. What do I need to do?

Thanks,
Gary

I don't think you need to do a repair install.
