Hey all, i reinstalled XP on my laptop, and I am having trouble keeping services running.
It seems that I can start services, the print spooler service for example. I can set it to automatically start when windoze boots, but it won't start automatically after I restart. There are many services I need running to use my computer, print spooler, windows audio, wireless, hard drive indexing, and a bunch of others. I can set them to automatically start, and after I start them manually they work perfectly and stay running until i restart. Why don't they start automatically when I turn my computer on? I tell them to but they don't. Thanks a lot PCmech!

Did you install the chipset/video/usb etc drivers after the Windows install?

There are also service dependencies. You may have a needed service that's not obvious disabled.

There's something wrong in your install as you shouldn't need to set required services to start, they should be setup to start automatically during installation. Also, if there are dependencies, when you attempt to start a service it will tell you that such and such service is required and will also start that service. As suggested, you may not have all your required drivers installed. Check with the laptop mfrs website and download the latest drivers.

Thanks for the tips. As usual, glc comes outta nowhere and solves the problem in one sentence. I hope someone is paying you for the service you provide here, dude. Thanks.
Thanks to the others as well, it helps clear things up. |
