Problem with "new folder" Win XP Pro
For about the last year, when I create a "new folder" in windows explorer, the folder will come up with a "name" like "hawk", "kite" or something weird like that. If I delete the folder, the next one will come up with "new folder" just like it should.
Have run all sorts of anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware programs and they all come up empty for any bad things. Have never seen this before and wonder what might be causing it. Not really a "problem", just annoying |

That IS weird!
Sounds like corruption in explorer itself. Try creating 2 new folders, 1 with the "weird name", & a 2nd with regular "new folder"...then r-click on each & go to properties, & see if you find any differences. A repair install of XP would probably correct this, but the problem seems benign for that action. You may also try, in explorer, click tools>folder options, & "restore defaults". |

To be honest, I would keep it like that and just see what kinds of names it gives :P It sounds awesome.
Unless it doesn't let you rename the folder or it is a malware I don't see the problem :P |

Been away from computers for a few days.
Tried 2 folders, the first came up "rooster" and the second came up "new folder". No differences in the properties. Haven't tried resetting defaults yet. No problems with renaming. Really not that big of a deal, just a bit annoying because sometimes when the folder comes up it will place itself alphabetically in the sequence but I don't have a clue what name will come up next so I have to hunt. With "new folder" I always know to look for "n". |

I would do a scan with Malwarebytes in safe mode or safe mode with networking.

Not sure if this will help.
Windows 98 - XP Start > Run > Regedit Windows Vista / 7 Start > type Regedit > press enter Go to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\Windows.new folder Please right click it > Export > put on desktop go to desktop and right click it > edit (will open in notepad) copy and paste here
