possible problem with the hal.dll version
the computer has w2k server with sp4. when i shut down it restarts after the shutdown. i tried a live cd and it doesnt do that, so its an OS problem. im thinking its because hal.dll is outdated/misconfigured. it says acpi multiprocessor but i only have one xeon cpu, the other cpu slot is empty.
hall.dll version 5.0.2183.1 also PowerdownAfterShutdown key was set to 0, but i have already set it to 1.

It will show as multiprocessor if that Xeon is hyperthreaded and/or multicore.
Restarting after shutdown is usually due to "wake on lan" being enabled in the bios. |

nope its not WOL. i disconnected the ethernet and it does the same thing. every time i turn off, it restarts. isnt that hal.dll version too old. it dates back to 1999 according to driver details.

ok im back.
i have an idea. can i put some kind of a shutdown script in the bootloader or somewhere during the load process to shut it down after it reboots. my brainstorming comes up with vague things like init and grub, although i would like a windows only solution. |
