Failure to Boot
This evening when I started my other PC, it kept failing to boot. it will not boot on Safe Mode and if the Boot Normally is selected it will show a bunch of instructions such as:
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" followed by: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. At the bottom it adds: Technical Information STOP: 0x000000ED, 0x82B71900, 0xC00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000. Other than pressing the Sart Button, I have not added, deleted, or changed any software or hardware. The PC had been running fine this morning. Any ideas what this could be?The PC is a Dell Dimension 8300 with Windows XP Home Edition. |

Immediately at startup, press F12 to get the boot menu, and boot it into diagnostics. Run diagnostics on the hard drive. If it tests good, run the rest of the diagnostics.

Failure to Boot
Did as you suggested and it came up with the following:
Drive - 0 Fail ST3120026AS By the way it only has one hard drive. Does it look like the hard drive is bad? |

Update: It had a bad hard drive. Was able to clone the old hard drive to the new one which saved me the hassle of reload. PC is OK now.
