XP start up

During the initial startup of XP, it hangs on the windows startup screen for about 3-4 minutes before finishing. At first the start up screen is very dim and after the delay, the screen goes bright (active?) and the startup bar does its normal thing with the blue squares moving across. I had just moved my computer to a new room-
Upon the hook up in the new room, I connected a HDMI connection to the video card, and also the digital optic connection (this comes off the MB and is working correctly). Also, I changed the monitor conection from digital to analog, but this has gone back to digital now. The HDMI connection went from the video card output to a receiver input. When I started my computer it would hang on the atratup and the screen would be dimly liit. At first I would reboot the system and it would progress through it's normal startup to a screen that gave a message that something had changed either with software or hardware, and on this screen it gave me the choice of starting windows normally, or with last known good configuration. With either choice, windows would then start normally. I'm thinking that something changed with my video card and i'm thinking about unistalling and then reinstalling the video cartd software.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
