Validate XP Home
Hi, My friend had a PC built for her and they used an illegal copy of XP. I gave her my old copy of XP Home that I am no longer using. How do I activate her illegal copy with my good copy? I can find no where to plug in the good activation key. I hope I don't have to re-install it
TIA

In order to use your key, her's must be the same version - Home. If it is, download the Magical Jelly Bean and use that program to change the product keys. Then try the activation. If her version is XP Pro, she would have to do a fresh install with an XP Home disk in order to use your key.

And you can't mix OEM and Retail keycodes.

That I don't know EzyStvy mine is retail I don't know what the heck is on her PC other than it is the Home Edition. So if it doesn't work I have to do a total re-installation? Can I do a install over the current install so I don't have to back up everything and re-install all the programs?

When I put the valid code in with Magic Jelly Bean, where in XP do you go to validate it?

Activate Windows should be in the start menu under Accessories - System Tools.
If it doesn't like it, you can do a "repair install". |
